COURSE DESCRIPTION
Students are introduced to the main areas of technology.
Students work with partners to create projects in the different areas of technology.
COURSE OBECTIVES
Olathe School District's 6th grade Intro to Technology Course is based on a Project Lead the Way course entitled Flight & Space. The exciting world of aerospace comes alive through the Flight and Space (FS) unit. Students become engineers as they design, prototype, and test models to learn about the science of flight and what it takes to travel and live in space. They solve real-world aviation and space challenges and plan a mission to Mars.
Students may enroll for a PLTW account to have access to all PLTW Flight & Space resources.
TEXT BOOK & Online MATERIAL - Online PLTW Students must enroll for a PLTW account to have access to all PLTW Flight & Space resources.
SUPPLIES - What to bring to class
There is a $10.00 fee is requested at the beginning of the quarter to cover supplies.
Students will need: 1) a pocket folder to leave in the room
2) a pencil
3) Charged Microsoft Surface Go
4) Positive attitude
GRADES-
Weekly participation points - Each student begins with a 100% participation grade. There are several ways that students lose points from their participation grade. Examples include: disruptive behavior or horseplay, failure to clean up after themselves, not coming to class prepared, or not participating in class.
Projects - There will be a few hands-on student projects. Students are graded on
FINAL GRADES-
A student's final grade will be broken down into these categories: Weekly Points (Participation) = 30%, Projects = 30%, Tests/quizzes = 10%, Module work = 30%
CLASS ARRIVAL -
Students will always arrive and meet in "mission control" (white classroom desks), even if we are working in modules for the day.
Students should be prepared with their folders, sharpened pencils and Surface Gos. The instructor will "brief" students on the days' activities.
CLEANUP TIME - Students will use a 3-5 minute cleanup to put away their supplies and push in chairs.
